PALADIN’S ENGINEERING SERVICES

Paladin’s direct-to-owner design engineering emphasizes emissions reduction through solutions that are tailored to your facility. Expertise in the use and application of designed and installed systems is a hallmark of our projects and allows our work to produce significant carbon emission reductions. Attention to constructability and operability improves the transition from Construction to Warranty.  To ensure the goal of reduction is met, Paladin’s perspective is that projects are not finished until they are working.

Paladin’s competitive advantage is that our team is committed to your win. We are confident in our wide range of engineering capabilities, and have been a “Game changer in building systemsTM “ for clients in government, healthcare, higher education, and industrial spaces. If you’re interested in working with our talented team of engineers, please reach out to start a conversation.

DIRECT-TO-OWNER MEP DESIGN

At Paladin, we understand that infrastructure and process improvements are not cheap and that even the most environmentally virtuous building owner is still limited by economic and political factors. We recognize that projects are hard to fund. We carefully create Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design solutions to match your budget while maximizing financial and sustainable impact.

Whether you are working on a new building or an old building, we collaborate with you to implement emission-reducing solutions with our Mechanical HVAC Design, Electrical Design, and Lighting Design. Our priorities are to optimize your energy consumption, ensure that the solution is well operated, and supplement with alternative or renewable energy sources where possible – all while staying within your budget.

EXISTING BUILDING IMPROVEMENTS SERVICES

A significant portion of our portfolio is existing building improvement services. Paladin’s experienced team of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) engineers can deliver custom-designed building system improvements to already existing buildings. Whether you need to meet emissions standards or are working towards infrastructure modernization, Paladin is by your side through the design and implementation processes.

When capital is tight and a full replacement isn’t financially feasible, Paladin can provide recommendations for upgrading, renovating, or retrofitting your existing mechanical HVAC systems. We can optimize current systems and incorporate new, more energy-efficient technologies to reduce carbon emissions, which gives you more flexibility to direct funds to other building priorities while still improving your HVAC system’s performance and efficiency.

Paladin’s Facilities Conditions Assessments (FCAs) lay the foundation for the size, scope, and need of an existing building improvement project. It’s the process by which we develop a comprehensive picture of the feasibility and physical condition of an existing structure. This is when we take a deeper look at the existing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, analyze building enclosures, and perform functional tests to determine where design efforts and your funds are best allocated. During this process, Paladin works with you to marry your priorities with the holistic needs of the building.

ASTM standards are internationally recognized and carry a ton of weight in real estate negotiations and transactions. ASTM E32018 Assessments provide our team with a scope of the potential issues of an existing structure and help us make informed decisions about any necessary improvements and upgrades.

Paladin’s capabilities for design scale range from small commercial buildings to large industrial campuses with Central Utility Plants that house heating, cooling, and other services for the rest of the compound. Our team brings the same expertise and environmentally forward approach to our Central Utility Plant Upgrades by working closely with owners to determine their vision for the facility and map out a sustainably sound strategy.

With our Building Pressurization Troubleshooting, we can help you achieve positive building pressurization and, consequently, reduce your building’s heating and cooling loads. A lower heating and cooling load will lead to lower energy consumption and carbon emissions. This is a win-win for you and the environment!

CARBON NEUTRAL DESIGN CONSULTING

The goal of our Carbon Neutral Design Consulting services is to do no harm, both to the environment and your bottom line. Paladin understands that budget constraints are a real obstacle to sustainable improvements. That’s why we lean heavily into our analysis to design buildings and systems that will have the most positive impact on the capital invested.

Paladin’s Carbon Neutral Building strategy focuses on the survey of the existing building to determine what assets, residual equipment life, energy profile, and facility use patterns exist.  From this informed starting point, we devise emission reduction strategies mapping alternatives for your response and input. System improvements, equipment replacements, infrastructure upgrades, operational policies, and similar strategies are combined to reduce operational emissions (Scope 1 and Scope 2) to the greatest extent. When applicable, Paladin then works with you and your team to develop the right combination of renewables and offsets to make your facility carbon neutral.

For projects requiring finish and architectural improvements, Paladin can engage our Sustainability Consulting department to support the work of other project partners in determining the best materials for minimizing embodied carbon. Paladin can work with your operations teams to improve operational emissions from activities other than facility use. As a whole, Paladin brings the full perspective to existing building improvement consulting that can turn your inventory into high-performing, carbon-neutral facilities.

BUILDING AUTOMATION SYSTEMS (BAS) DESIGN

Maintaining the performance of built assets requires more than building automation systems (BAS) as one-size-fits-all solutions. Paladin understands that we do not live in a one-size-fits-all world. We believe that building automation systems are the keystone of successful projects. We support architecture firms, design-build contractors, and developers as they work to construct new facilities and work with existing buildings to improve the operation of their existing systems.

We can provide Enterprise BAS Design for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing automation systems that increase energy efficiency and provide building owners and property managers convenient access and control over these essential systems.

Once these proprietary systems are designed, our job begins. The next stage is BAS Standards Development to provide the construction team and facility managers with a set of standards used to ensure that their new BAS systems are designed, installed, and operated in a safe and efficient manner.

We’re always looking for ways to improve systems based on your business needs and preferences, which is why we also conduct a BAS Integration Review. During a BAS Integration Review, we will look to identify potential issues and ensure that the BAS is properly integrated with the other systems in the building.

With Paladin’s BAS Project Management, you can have peace of mind in knowing that your building will be turnkey ready for its occupants. We manage all elements of the operation of BAS including the design, installation, and operation, and we work with you to meet your unique preferences and monitor progress.
